On 21 December 2016, the National Institute of Geriatry, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation in Warsaw joined the elite group of research units with the „HR Excellence in Research Logo”. The logo is awarded by the European Commission to those institutions that implement the principles of the „European Charter for Researchers” and the „Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers” and create a friendly environment for work and development. The awarded logos are also required to maintain transparent recruitment processes for researchers and to ensure favourable working conditions and career development.

The awarding of the logo is one of the activities of the European Commission within the framework of the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers, aimed at increasing the attractiveness of working conditions for researchers in the European Union and is intended to contribute to the increase in the number of researchers in the Old Continent. The European Commission also supports the institutions implementing the principles of the European Charter and Code by organising meetings and discussions with stakeholders. In addition, it promotes such centres among international organisations and researchers as centres providing the best working and development conditions for people in science.

The HR Excellence in Research label is not awarded forever. Institutions awarded with this title every two years are subject to control by the European Commission, which is to determine whether the current activity of the entity remains at the same high level.

„The award is the result of our current activities, but it also mobilizes all of us, scientists and the management of the institute, to optimize our work, including creating good working conditions for our researchers, supporting them in acquiring new projects, new scientific partners, taking care of and mobilizing them for career development,” comments Professor Iwona Sudoł-Szopińska, Director for Research at the Institute. Iwona Sudoł-Szopińska, Director for Scientific Research at the National Institute of Geriatry, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation in Warsaw, comments and adds: „As a result, all these activities pursue one goal – to improve our scientific position in Poland and abroad.
