Operating rules of the Biological Therapy Center of the National Geriatrics, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Institute

 

  • The Biological Therapy Center (BTC) is an organizational unit of the Systemic Connective Tissue Diseases Clinic and Polyclinic of the National Geriatrics, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Institute, created to care for patients taking biological drugs
  • the Head of the BTC, supervised by the Chief Doctor of the Systemic Connective Tissue Diseases Clinic and Polyclinic is responsible for substantive and organizational supervision
  • tasks of the BTC:
  • providing medical care for patients qualified for biological treatment as part of:
    1. Drug programs of the National Health Fund
    2. Customized therapy approved by the Coordinating Team for the Biological Treatment of Rheumatic Diseases
  • distributing biological drugs to qualified patients
  • keeping medical records of patients and the documentation of the disposal of biological drugs according to applicable rules
  • biological drugs are administered within the BTC in subcutaneus and intravenous form
  • the visit of a patient taking a subcutaneus drug is an ambulatory visit
  • the visit of a patient taking an intravenous drug is a 1-day hospitalization
  • subcutaneus and intravenous drugs (infliximab and tocilizumab) are being administered within the premises of the BTC
  • patients treated subcutaneously are asked to collect material for laboratory tests in the Treatment Room of the Polyclinic of the National Geriatrics, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Institute on the first floor. Patients treated with infliximab are asked to collect material for laboratory tests in the infusions room within the premises of the BTC
  • other biological drugs, i.e. rituximab and other drugs not covered by the drug program of the National Health Fund are being administered within the premises of the Systemic Connective Tissue Diseases Clinic and Polyclinic on the 3rd floor, where also material for laboratory tests is collected

Nursing and medical care over those patients is being carried out by the employees of the Clinic.

  • The BTC operates on weekdays from 7:35-15:05

 

The Biological Therapy Center is treating over 800 patients with biological drugs

 

In 2015:

  • 4754 patients were admitted on outpatient basis for appointments monitoring the treatment, administering and handing out subcutaneus drugs
  • we carried out 503 one-day-hospitalizations for administering intravenous drugs
